Are you looking to achieve a sexier body, but dieting, hitting the gym and liposuction aren’t for you? You’re in luck. West Vancouver Wellness Centre offers mesotherapy for both men and women.
Mesotherapy vs. Liposuction
Unlike liposuction, mesotherapy is non-invasive and does not require surgery or anesthesia. Whereas liposuction can make cellulite look worse, mesotherapy can take on cellulite directly, resulting in a smoother skin surface. Also, you won’t experience the pain, bruising, two-week downtime or oddly placed weight gain that frequently occur with liposuction. After liposuction, you also have to wear a tight support garment for up to eight weeks. Who has time or the tolerance for that? With mesotherapy, there is a better option.
Sculpt Your Body with Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy hits cellulite directly, giving you smoother skin and a slimmer look. Any subsequent weight gain will appear symmetrical and proportionate. With mesotherapy, there is no downtime and adverse reactions are a rarity. After your mesotherapy treatment, we recommend wearing loose-fitting clothing.
What is mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy is a safe and effective medical procedure pioneered by French physician Dr. Michael Pistor. Mesotherapy involves a non-surgical medical technique that utilizes combinations of customized mixtures of natural medications that include vitamins, plant extracts, homeopathics and amino acids that aid in weight loss, treatment of cellulite and skin rejuvenation.
One of the main medications is phosphatidyl choline, which is a derivative of soy lecithin. This ingredient is commonly used by many physicians worldwide in the treatment of fatty plaques in the arteries, with the exception that the treatment is administered intravenously. Similar mechanisms exist in both mesotherapy and fatty plaque removal therapy. However, the location of the fat is different. Another ingredient is L-carnitine, which is used to transport fat into and out of the cell for energy production purposes. Many have taken L-carnitine as a supplement orally in order to try and lose weight; it is far more effective when injected into the site of the fatty region.
Mesotherapy’s procedure involves injection with very small needles into the areas of fat. Common areas of injection include the abdomen, thighs, hips and buttocks, whereby roughly one-tenth to two-tenths of the medication is injected in one centimetre square increments. The effect of the medication is to cause localized fat shrinkage that can be visible in as little as three to four treatments.
Patients who respond most readily are those that have localized fat, such as the “love handles,” “saddle bags” or cellulite over the thigh. However from clinical experience, systemic weight loss does occur in most individuals who have localized treatments with mesotherapy since the treatment promotes healing through increased circulatory, lymphatic and immune system responses, as well as fat removal from the surrounding fat cells.
How often do I receive mesotherapy treatments?
Generally, the average patient requires eight to ten treatments. The number of mesotherapy treatments depends on the size of the individual being treated, the number of body areas needing to be treated and how long the patient has had the excess fatty deposits. Mesotherapy treatments should be spaced every one to two weeks.
When can I expect to see the results of the mesotherapy?
Generally, results can be seen in most patients in as little as two to three treatments and the results obtained with mesotherapy can be dramatic. After completing a customized series of mesotherapy treatments over a three-month period, patients can see improvements in skin quality, less dimpling of the skin and weight reduction. Weight reduction can be approximately ten pounds on average, as well as up to two clothing size reduction.
How many treatments are required before I see results?
It depends on the patient's body; some patients see results after one treatment, while others may require four to five treatments to begin seeing results. Again, since mesotherapy works systemically, one can notice a huge improvement in overall weight loss and loss of inches around the area being treated.
Is mesotherapy for everyone?
Mesotherapy therapy is suited for most people between the ages of 18 and 75. These individuals should be in overall good health prior to the treatment. Various side effects and contraindications may apply to certain patients with advanced disease or bleeding disorders.
Is mesotherapy safe?
Mesotherapy is extremely safe, effective and most people are ideal candidates for this form of therapy. Your naturopathic doctor will evaluate your medical history and current state of health, utilizing state-of-the-art diagnostic tools and evaluation techniques. Side effects are generally limited to bruising, a burning sensation post treatment, as well as itching and swelling. The bruising and swelling usually fade within one to two weeks following the treatment.
Can I go back to work or resume normal activity after the treatment?
Yes. The procedure generally takes 30 minutes and requires no preparation or recovery time. However, we do recommend that you rest for at least three days in terms of physical activity. No heavy bandages or girdles are used or required.
Are the treatments painful?
The majority of patients experience minimal discomfort with mesotherapy. A pinching and burning sensation may be felt during a treatment, all depending on the area being treated. Sensitivity can range for those with lower pain thresholds. A numbing cream or painkillers can be used in special circumstances, however this is not recommended due to its potential interference in effectiveness of treatment.
How long do the benefits last?
Treatment areas will remain free of unwanted fat so long as a healthy diet and exercise regimen are followed. Your naturopathic doctor will help customize a healthy program for you, which may involve a blood/food allergy assessment and other diagnostic tools to assess fat loss, muscle mass, health and your body’s cell integrity. Dietary and lifestyle recommendations will be made and custom tailored for your body’s needs. Treatments for cellulite and excess fat may require maintenance on a six-month to one-year basis.
Mesotherapy for Cellulite
The medical terms for cellulite are liposclerosis and lipoedema. Cellulite is a skin condition affecting over 70% of women. The skin on an individual with cellulite appears lumpy and dimpled in appearance. Cellulite commonly appears on the hips, buttocks and legs.
How does mesotherapy get rid of cellulite?
In order to understand how mesotherapy reduces cellulite, one must understand what cellulite is. Cellulite appears in the subcutaneous level of the skin whereby fat cells are arranged in chambers surrounded by connective tissue called septae. Cellulite occurs when the fat cells expand and stretch the connective tissue, causing it to eventually harden causing non-flexible areas. The surrounding tissue will expand with either weight or water gain. This results in areas of the skin being held down while other sections bulge outward, creating that signature lumpy appearance. Mesotherapy benefits individuals who have cellulite by enabling drainage of excess fluid from fat cells and improving blood flow to the area. Mesotherapy also enables lymphatic drainage of excess dissolved fat deposits and removes fibrotic and hardened connective tissue.
Mesotherapy for Body Shaping
Is it possible to get rid of fat without having an invasive procedure? The answer is mesotherapy. Microinjections of a customized “fat burning” formula are administered to the desired areas. A series of treatments (three to ten) are spaced two to four weeks apart. Results are permanent and have extraordinary effects so long as the patient adheres to a proper diet and exercise regimen. Occasional touch-ups may be required.

Is mesotherapy different from liposuction?
Yes, it is very different. There is no anesthesia or surgical risk and mesotherapy requires no recovery time. Mesotherapy also removes the fat from the fat cell without destroying it, as is the case with liposuction.
How much does mesotherapy cost?
Mesotherapy treatment costs range from $150 to $450 per area, per treatment, not including the initial consultation. A treatment area is defined as the abdomen, thighs, arms, hips and buttocks. Smaller areas, such as the face or neck, are priced according to size and shape.
