More Choices for Safe Sunscreens

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has recently put out their annual sunscreen guide.

The Environmental Working Group is dedicated to ensuring the health and environmental safety of products we use. They assessed the safety profile of 1800 sunscreens. This year they ranked one quarter of the sunscreen products on the market as safe; last year it was only 20% and the year before it was only 8%. Only half of the US sunscreens comply with the Food and Drug Administration’s broad-spectrum regulations (meaning it confers protection for UVA and UVB radiation). Skinceuticals makes an excellent sunscreen that is available at our clinic. It is called Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50; it blocks UVA and UVB rays, and it uses very safe ingredients such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. To find other safe and effective sunscreens, consumers should check of EWG’s online sunscreen guide: http://breakingnews.ewg.org/2012sunscreen/ Reference http://www.ewg.org/news/news-releases/2012/05/16/m...
